Why Spray Foam?

sprayfoam2_roof_tn.jpg
Spray foam being applied to an existing roof deck creating an air sealed, thermal barrier.

Every foam product stops drafts and has excellent R-values. This means you’ll experience greater comfort control and see substantial heating and cooling cost savings. Spray foam’s energy efficient qualities are what make it most desirable but you’ll also notice decreased outside noise and much less dust in your home.

Low-density foam trimmed and ready for interior wall finishing. Gives a perfect fit every time.
The same open cell structure of the semi-rigid foam that insulates temperatures also absorbs and reduces the transmission of sound. By sealing your home it reduces the infiltration of allergens, pollen and external dust. And since it’s not a particle based insulation (like cellulose) it won’t contribute to the dust levels in your home. Spray foam gives a perfect fit every time since is applied as a liquid which expands and cures in just seconds to a semi-rigid mass. It’s excellent for use in air leakage problem areas such as sill plates, headers, truss ends, base boards, electrical outlets, piping, around windows, doors and other draft sources.

Spray foam saves you energy and money, keeps you comfortable, and keeps you healthy.

Spray foam is available in both open- and closed-cell configurations that is typically made from polyurethane. It is sprayed into construction assemblies as a liquid that expands to fill the surrounding cavity. Once dry, spray foam functions as both an air barrier and thermal barrier and effectively fill holes and cracks for both a well-insulated and air-tight wall assembly. Closed-cell spray foams are more dense and also function as a vapor barrier.

Spray-applied as a liquid, each insulation system expands within seconds to 120 times its volume to fill every nook and cranny providing superior energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality by eliminating air movement through walls.

Spray foam is non-toxic and has undergone extensive testing and meets the intent of all building code requirements. It reduces airborne noise and dust making it a healthy choice for those who suffer from allergies, asthma or chemical sensitivity.

Our primary foam supplier is Demilec . The bulk of our foam projects use their SEALECTION 500 formulation which is a half-pound, or low-density foam. SEALECTION 500 is an open cell semi-rigid spay-applied polyurethane foam insulation system which is made up of millions of microscopic cells that simultaneously insulate and air-seal. It has been specifically designed to make homes more energy efficient, comfortable, quiet and less dusty. It is applied as a liquid which expands into a semi-rigid mass; when installed properly it automatically seals off those drafty areas at baseboards, headers, sill plates, around windows, doors, electrical outlets, pipes, and other gaps and penetrations. It minimizes uncontrolled air leakage throughout the building envelope (wall, ceilings,...) thereby reducing energy losses.

HEATLOK SOY® is a rigid (closed cell) spray polyurethane foam insulation system that uses recycled plastic waste and renewable materials, thereby efficiently and effectively utilizing the world’s non renewable resources. HEATLOK SOY® can increase comfort and savings while reducing excess waste and energy consumption in buildings by up to 50%.

HEATLOK SOY® is a two-component spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam green in color having a nominal density 2 lbs/ft³. This spray foam has been specially formulated to meet the intent of the U.S. Building Codes and is used primarily in air barrier and insulation applications. HEATLOK SOY® is an environmentally-friendly foam developed from recycled plastic materials, renewable soy oils; and possesses the blowing agent HFC 245fa.

Installation

House is prepped by laying drop cloths as prescribed, covering windows, blocking soffits or other ventilation that will no longer be necessary, and ensuring all bath and kitchen vent ducts are secure and exhausting to the exterior.

  • Once the foam components are up to temperature and mixed spraying can begin.
  • For attics and attic crawl spaces the foam is spray to the average thickness indicated.
  • Wall and cathedral ceiling application are typically trimmed flush with the studs or rafters for interior surfaces to be hung.
  • The debris is cleaned up and ready for removal
